PO-89 Soil Sampler
Drilling Machines
PO-89 Soil Sampler
Developer: Laboratory of Drilling Machines
Purpose and scope:
The sampler is designed for sampling loosely bound soils with an undisturbed structure from a depth of up to 6 meters. It is used in engineering and geological surveys on weak soils and geological exploration in sedimentary rocks of organogenic origin.
Brief description and design features
The sample probe is made of stainless steel and consists of a housing 4, which is a pipe, sawn along the axis in half, the nose 3, also sawn in half, the head part 2, anchor 1 with a welded rib (fin) and two rotation supports 5, installed in the head and nose parts. The body is rigidly welded with the head and nose parts and forms a single whole.
The anchor has the ability to rotate freely in supports 5 by 1800, and its left part and welded rib should come into contact with the inner side of the pipe body with minimal clearance. The left side of the pipe body is sharpened. The same sharpening in the lower part has an anchor with a rib.
This is done in order to facilitate the penetration of the sampler into the ground when it is hammered, as well as taking a sample of peat monolith when turning the body around the anchor by 1800. The impactor bars are attached to the head of the sampler. With this device, the sampler is hammered to a given depth (up to 6 meters). Peat monolith samples are taken sequentially in layers every 500 mm. The height of the monolith of the sample per cycle is 500 mm. Each subsequent sample is taken 200 mm deeper than the previous one, taking into account the fact that the peat monolith of the previous sample was broken by the nose.
Technological and economic advantages
High quality of sampling with undisturbed monolith structure of loosely bound and strongly moistened soils. High performance of sampling from a depth of 4-6 meters with a high quality of the selected material, which allows determining the parameters of the soil monolith with the maximum degree of reliability.
Level of development
Experimental sample.
